What are my spring rates?

Postby notax » Fri Mar 20, 2009 2:45 pm

Didn't have a chance to check the spring rates before fitting my PSS9s. I couldn't make sense of the codes stamped on them - but can anyone else work out the rates from these:

Front 9/00 E4-FD1-Z348AOO

Rear 7/00 E4-FD1-Y380AOO

Crikey - lots of info - but no conclusion? What are you now running on your car? What are your thoughts?

I think the info is in there somewhere, notax. Iirc the PSS9 fronts are 400 Lb.

I use a 400 Lb tender spring with them to make it dual rate/give 1" of 200 Lb travel, before it becomes fully compressed with the remaining travel at 400 Lb.

Thanks - I saw that but couldn't see a positive conclusion? I know you're not keen on the weight of the 6 pot but do you think that your current suspension set up is as good as it has been?

Possibly, but it's still pretty s**t for a rally car imo.

They're good & strong, but travel is very limited. When mine's lifted up for less smooth surfaces, there's only about 40mm of droop. (Hence the tendency to pick inside front wheels up on tarmac.)

I'm looking forward to posting pictures of my car at Bovington - you'll see why it was good on tyre wear

Would the wheel lifting be reduced by fitting a different ARB?

Do you think fitting the helper springs has made enough difference for me to do it?

I did over 200 stage miles in the red car with the helper springs, I tried different ARB set ups/ride heights and it was actually handling quite well by the last event 8) - but having said that - what do I know  - I binned it!

I've only driven the blue car at the RBMR (with no testing/experimenting) and it was awful. Other than a trip to the workshop for the engine mountings replacing it hasn't turned a wheel since the RBMR, but there has to be an acceptable setting in there somewhere....

I'm waiting for the Proflex credit crunch sale. :P

It is perfectly possible to bin a well sorted car  it may even be easier than binning a shed as you feel more confident and leave less margin for error...

I didn't realise you hadn't used your car at all since RBMR  In that case I really think you must do EMCOS - don't think of it as testing, just have a good time refinding your mojo :D It is so slippery you'll be too busy grinning to worry about the set up. And since our cars are now almost identical there should be some healthy competition (crew wth biggest grins wins)

Presumably the suspension came straight off the red car - strange its not handling as well as that one did :?:

I've only just bought the PSS9s - how much would Proflex be..?
