non power racks

i think that some early E30's came with a manual racks, might be worth a try? they'll be a bit long lock to lock probably.

I've got a manual E30 RHD quick rack on my donor vehicle. I think it's 3 turns lock to lock

started to change the steering coloum today for the corsa one it looks like its going to be a fairly simple conversion i will take some pics and keep you informed (ps what was with all the porn the other day )

Perhaps another rack possibility here, from another forum.

Rather than log-in, basically its a Z4 rack (that has a power column normally), its pictured next to an E30 m3 rack which is a similar fitment to an E36. Pinion splines are apparently different
The Z4 movement per revolution is 51mm, a 2.7 turn z3 rack is 53mm.


It looks a strong jobbie, or it may be a possible basis for some new machined internals

Theres a guy who does e30/e36 race/rally quick racks in several speeds in europe, i've had prices off him before i went to sellholm. They are all in bmw casings too so should be good and strong .
If i have time later i'll dig out his name, he's called Roland ___(i think) - you may have come accross him. . . .make sure you are sitting down . Sellholm i'd guess do manual ones too.

Our 2.5 power rack has been well worth the money bolts straight on, retaining the b-m/zf quality engineering.

At the moment im running a z3 rack with a steering quickener and althought it works fine, i have to drive with both hands in the wheel as the steering is a little hard, usable but very hard in my opinion.

Im thinking on fit a sellholm steering rack but the L2L spec is 2.4turns, and my current system have 1.8 turns L2L.

My times are super dependent on the steering quickeness, as I lose a lot of confidence in cars that have slow racks, and i have some fear of purchasing the sellholm unit and feel it as a downgrade in the end.

Do you think it worth the money over my current system?
