I will soon end up grinding to a halt John, I am doing the shell, which I have all the bits and bobs for, but when it starts coming to bits like brakes, engine bits, gearbox, rear axle etc, I just don't have the funds as of yet.

The old RV8 will be a good un though, 300+ bhp should be on the cards................

Update guys, been very busy, new bulkhead in place.........



Note that I have also welded the holes for the heater pipes, that won't be returning!

I also picked these up this week, reputedly genuine NAS lamps, no covers though but hoping to drop on some more..........







The welding here is crap, the problem is, at the factory, this joint is Braized, well I don't have the facility to re-braize it, so I have welded it, but because of the impurities, the weld looks awful, nothing some of Isopon's finest won't sort out.......

I then found myself with a bit of time, so started on the doors, I weighed them first, WOW,..........

Front door, a colossal 26kgs!



Rear door, 18kgs!



Those of a nervous disposition, turn away now...........



down to 11kgs, more to come yet but polycarbonate wiow to go in so I reckon that will be final weight..

Thanks Peter. For the first time ever, I am building a car that will suit both, it will mainly be for Tarmac single venues, but I will make it strong enough for some gravel if the mood takes me.

Well, it was a weekend of mixed fortunes this weekend.............

Having managed to wangle my first Saturday off for months, I put all the pieces in place to get the car painted underneath, engine bay and inside.

Trailer was loaded, sand blaster booked and all looked rosy, I took the car to the blasters in glorious sunshine which I was sooo glad about, then dropped her off instructing them what bits to do, and what not to go near.

Dinner time loomed and they called me to go and collect the car, which I duly did, excited at the prospect of some bare metal to spray.

However, my excitement was dulled slightly, they had made a cracking job of the inside and engine bay..............but then had ran out of sand [:(], they usually have 10 tonnes on stock but were awaiting delivery, but they only charged me £50 so I suppose I can't grumble.

The upshot was though, I had to manually clean the underside, this was no mean feat, as this car is caked in waxoyl (I supoose I shouldn't moan about that, it is the waxoyl that has kept the shell in such good condition) and this subsequently set me back a good 4 hours.

In essence, I can't help thinking that I rushed the rest of the job, the shift I work, I don't get to see my partner in the week, so when I request a weekend working on the car, it doesn't go down awfully well, then when It was going to run into Sunday night, I was properly in the dog-house.

Anyway, I got her done, but not the best job I could have done, main thing is, it is sealed from the horrible damp weather we are having at the moment.

Just a quick update everybody......................

i am really dissapointed with the shell, the paint finish on the bits I have done is crap, and it is rusting in places that I have missed with paint already, so I have covered her up and put a heater in there till the weather gets better, then I am toying with having her dipped, I tink it would be worth it, with the shell being so good.

Also, a spec change is on the cards, I have spoken to a few, and done some extensive research, and the works cars ran a 4 linked 4HA axle up the rear, the standard Rover mounting system is shite, and actually is designed that it lifts the back up under extreme acceleration. Anyway, I have been invited to go and have a look at a pukka "Works" car, and I will be taking loads of pics to replicate the rear axle mounting system, obviously this is gonna mean chopping the shell about again too.

Anyway, in the meantime, I have been plodding on with other bits, mainly the doors, and bearing in mind, I have done them outside at home, I think I have done ok. The last few Sundays have been sunny, and if you leave something out for long enough, it heats up, so I have used that to my advantage to "Bake off" the doors.

You have brought back memories there, yes they do lift up under abuse, my mate's/bro had a few V8 sd1's and kicking them down exiting corners used to produce some blazing inside wheel spinning! at speed too

Sorry boys, didn't make meself all that clear, yep, deffo running a 4HA, going to get one from a Jag breakers in Wrexham on Sunday ( I won't tell you the tale about buying a Scimitar one off ebay only to realise that it is far too narrow when I got it back...................oops, I just did! ) and apparently, Ian Jemison is the man with these axles (already spoken to him and hatched a plan for when funds allow) and I am hoping to build a Floating axle that should be reliable. Keep em peeled..............................

Speak to Mark about 4HAs, Lee.

He has some spare 4.6/5.1 CWPs and made his own alloy hubs for his semi-floating/tapered roller bearing 4HA in the TR8. No axle, shaft or diff failures whatsoever in all his BTRDA events.
