long overdue but a few photos of the new shell sam and i have been busy at the workshops fettling

this is a shot of the car on the worksop trolley



we use this for moving shells around and is set at the right hight for the jig

the new car is having the epas power steering system that reqiured a new coulmn mount to be fabricated





Boxed in with a punch and flanged plate




This system will allow us to get away from Hydraluics and we will make the car a little bit easier to work on changing a driverside lower wishbone is a nightmare on a event with a power rack
and we can use a true 2.4quickrack

Strut tops with cage mount and punch and flanged plates this is about to be cut out for widetracking



its a shame but its got to be done lol

wing not a great fit but workable




i will try and post photos on a regular basis more tomorrow

Thanks for posting Granville, shell is looking very good

I thought it would be a great idea to build the new car whilst competing in the current one - and it is to an extent, but the double bills are a bit of a shocker Granville and Sam are working flat out on it much of the time whilst also keeping the blue one up together which is no small feat. Looking forward to the time when I only have one rally car to worry about (and pay for!)

I'm hoping to head to Wales in a couple of weeks to sort out the seating position. In the meantime I need to keep on shopping for yet more rally stuff...

Just had a look for an update on yours - seems we are at a similar build stage As you intend to go for red I think our cars will clash badly

Any chance you might be finished and up for Richard Burns Memorial in September? It was at this event in 2008 that I met Simon and Lee for the first time, but since they last came along the evnt has been transformed for the better. It was stunning last year - a complete transformation. Be great if you could make it...

Any news of Simon recently?

it'll be a nice red, possibly a bmw colour? we need to crack on but the e30 is stranded at the mo while the new suspension arrives ( next week), giving us time to do some engine work.. might be finished by 2011,

weve had another busy day in the workshops on the red shell mainly tubbing the rear end for wheel clearance this is no easy joband involves hours of cutting and im glad that we had the shell on a spit to do it . anyway heres A few more photos to wet your appitites

after carefully marking out the arch the inner arches are cut out as so




and





those eagle eyed among you will notice that we have left the side protection bars in place thats just to leave a bit more strength in and add to shell stiffness aso note i have flanged the rear quater skin over to make it easier to weld in the new inner arch


then the new inner arch is welded in this is just a strip of steel tacked in place and then fully welded






this is a veiw of the inner arch after welding prior to trimming down



i will try to post some photos of the arches tomorrow after trimming


this photo is of the spare wheel carrier laid up in the mould in fiberglass its not whats being fitted to the car as once im happy with the shape i will make it in carbon fibre

Nice work! Out of interest, How are you going to join the corsa column to the quick rack? I assume you will be using a mk2 escort one? I have an escort rack fitted to my e30 and will be doing the corsa column conversion as its stupidly heavy when moving slowly

no were not using a escort rack we are using something different
coloumn joints are going to be custommade but all opel style connections

I'm looking forward to the next one too - it's a bit odd not seeing the car as it develops - and if it wasn't a four and a half hour round trip away I'd like to get my hands dirty too...
