The pumps fill it and it draws fuel to the fuel rail from the bottom where it collects. A well that is full at the bottom

Fuel lines can be routed through the car, so can't see why it can't be inside as it's a sealed unit

think you'll find it has to be behind a bulkhead, see[c(b)]8 page148 of the blur book. says driver/ passenger compartment should be isolated from the engine, wet batteries gearbox, etc petrol/fuel tanks, catch tank fuel components yadda yadda

All of which are not sealed and can release fumes, because they are able to breath. The supplier maybe able to advise if it can be mounted inside the car without a firewall. Nothing stopping you covering the swirl pot with an alluminium box if that's the case.
Remember Dale had a fuel tank mounted inside a lidded/sealable box in the back of his Sunbeam Always look on the bright side of life

The spare wheel well's a good starting point to box it in That's where I was considering putting one should it be needed.
Lets not forget, you would ideally need to house a low pressure lift pump to fill the pot and a new external high pressure pump to feed the injector rail, the rail return pipe would feed the swirl pot too ensuring it remains full. The swirl pot overflow goes back to the tank.
Nothing is ever simple . . Just run more fuel? Can anything be done with the existing in-tank pick up? i dont know much about e36's ![]()
My blue car has an 'enclosed' foam-filled bag tank in the modified spare wheel well (hence the noise - no room for the red car's rear exhaust box).
All internal 'fittings' have to be 'screwed' ('fittings' doesn't include navs, notax AFAIK pumps etc can be exposed, provided they use 'screwed' fittings - I boxed my pumps/filters off, in case any scrutineers got sniffy. Ian332iSport posted a thread about his E30 S50 suffering from fuel surge - he was proposing filling the standard tank with foam cubes. <- fekking expensive tho, IIRC?
Thanks - all seems a bit complicated and that is something I'm very keen to avoid... The problem at Bovington wasn't too bad - and at least I nowknow what the problem is if it happens again. I assume, as Ian mentioned, that the issue would be cured by having more fuel in the tank...?
If so, that is certainly the cheapest and easiest route - although it does seem a shame having put a lot of effort and cash into losing weight ![]()
