wiring colours on compact

hi does anyone know what colour the wire is going into the back of a set of compact 316i clocks for the rev counter and water temp , ive lost the round engine plug when i butchered the loom , i know the rev is black coming out of there but it obviously changes somewhere as there is no black on either of the clock plugs , any help be gratfully exepted .
