Differences between the 316i and 318Ti E36.

I'm going to have a look at a 318Ti tomorrow.

Bar the obvious with the engines how much is different between the 316i and 318Ti E36 Compacts?

Our current car is the 316i with the 1.9 engine and discs all round which we will most likely be scrapping due to lack of space, ideally I would have liked to be able to keep it and strengthen it as a spare shell but we simply don't have the room, so looking to see what other than lights, panels and switches we could salvage from it.

Keep the disc braked rear beam etc

Cut the front strut tower tops out to reinforce the new shell.

Are the brakes the same on the disc 316i as the 318Ti then?

On some of the 1.6's the rear brakes were drums.

Yes, some late 316 had the same rear arms/ brakes

I've bought it anyway. As a runner at £250 it's not as if I can lose money on it anyway.

Needs the back suspension looking at as it's got a snapped spring. It needed boosting to start it but it went first time with the booster on and quietened down straight away.

Will start pulling it apart tomorrow to see what's what.

It has the extra bit of power, air con and reverse sensors so it's already a step up on the 316i. I think the Mk2 and my Scirocco will be sold so I can clear some space and prep/cage the 316i and get the Ti running to keep my out on the road rallies in the meantime.
