After selling my last compact 5-6 years ago I have been playing on 2 wheels at motocross since... However I have always missed the BMW and wanted to return when I moved house and got a garage etc

After navigating at a stage rally on the 30th December at Pembrey I knew I had to get another car and had r bug big time!!!

Been hunting around for a real tidy base car this time and went to fetch it last night, after 400 miles drive and blow out on trailer so had to limo home with 3 wheels at 30 mph I finally have my new car home....

Now for the work to start and get it stripped etc

Fair play it should make a nice car that Tom, have 70% finished yer sill stands just gotta cut out the strengthening gussets and weld them in one morning this week for you, as 2mw morning im off to Hockleys to get another bumper

Looks like you cant go wrong building one of these just now, everyone seems to be building them or wanting one!

I did originally consider the Compact as my base car but in the end I went for the 1 series since the compacts were starting to be a bit old. I would have saved over 200Kgs and £3500 on the base car purchase if I'd followed my 1st instincts! As it happens my 1 series is just as old as the last E46 Compact being a 54 reg!

Best of luck, you cant go wrong building this, I will be following your build with interest!

My plan was to slowly build the car over the year ready for next year....! Wasn't going to touch it for a few months...

But I can't help it!



Also managed to sort out a pile of parts;

Polycarbonate windows
Cage
Suspension
Sump guards
Etc
Etc

Looks like its going to be quicker than I thought!

Next up is the shitter job of getting the sound deadening off and getting rid of all brackets / holes inside...

Easiest way to remove the sound deadening crap???

Heat gun, scraper and an unemployed mug on a cash bung for the sound deadening.

Does this mean a Cat 2 CCLB nowadays? (Over the max engine cc increase for Cat 1?)

But there was a 323ti ? which is a 2.5 , 15,000 made but not in UK so does this count?

You should be o.k, your right in the fact that the 323ti was a 2.5 , msa were fully up to speed on this when I originally spoke to them about fitting the 3.0 m54. If you want it from " the horses mouth" there very helpful.

Spoke to bloke who will be log booking it, he said its fine...

As long as the car was fitted with a 2.5 anywhere in the world it counts!

So you could run up to 3.0 M3 under cat 1 log book....
