i tig welded some sleeves that go through the floor to pick up with the diff ive thought long and hard about tying them into the cage and decided against it on the basis they are fully welded to the crossmember both sides and the diff is having a e 36 rear cover fitted that has a additonal mounting lug spreading the load

also progress is being made on fitting the saftey fuel cell this is a racing tank which is foam filled capacity of 10 gallons this tank will have a carbon fibre cover fitted the tubes are being used to hold the tank up in position they will be cut out at a later date






due to the fact that it is very awkward to get a pedal box that fits off the shelf i have made one for the car there are floor mounted boxes available but chris didnt like the idea as he likes the standard feet position of the pedal box so one was fabricated in house and it bolts straight in with no dramas the cylinders go through the bulkhead and its been designed to take girling or ap master cylinders






also inserts for the front suspention their 50mm bilstien jumbos but thats a story for another day more pics to follow

their bolted to the diff and the welded to the xmember that runs both sides of the floor panel i will take a better pic tomorrow

another busy week here at the workshops focusing mainly on the blue car with getting the car preped for next weekend this has included rebuilding the diff fitting the new clutch gearbox driveshafts sumpgaurd and just about everything you can think of inbetween
We knew that the diff had to be topped and tailed after the last event mainly due to dropping the oil and seeing that it was quite metallic when it was stripped the diff was found to be the standard 2 plate configuration and also the plates were very very worn also the pressure rings had to be faced due to damage from the friction plates



It was at this point i decided to do the four plate atlas conversion having dad the rings ground approx 25 thou on each i then set to reassembly after checking the bearings resetting the preload and replacing the collapsible spacer the casing was also treated to a sandblast and re paint

ive been out on a road test today with the car and the difference is noticible with the car putting a lot more traction down as the diff is tighter

also ive started on the development and design of the front widetrack bottom arms which are rosejointed both ends and will be tubalar watch this space

Sorry I haven't posted on herte for a long long time but the car is taking priority over the internet I have taken hundreds of pohotos and after the rallyday next week ill do a big write up about the build and upoload the photos if anyone wants a taster of the car feel free too add me on facebook. Well, nearly a year since the last post about my car As some of you will know, the car is now looked after by a small, but highly respected firm called GR Racing, based in Southampton. They run a number of BMW race and track day cars and also some very expensive historic race cars including a Mustang and a Corvette worth around £300k each...

As you may remember, the car was quick but very unreliable when originally built (before GR became involved) and I think we had something like 14 DNF - not good considering the time (and money!) that went into building a new car. I asked GR to go through the car with a fine toothed comb and do what was necessary to get it reliable. Almost a year, and a vast amount of money later, we seem to be getting there - and have four pots to our name so far this year

I'll try and post some photos when I can, but in the meantime a quick resume of the last year's efforts...

When I asked GR to run the car it was in a bit of a sorry state, not least because the prop had fallen off at the Richard Burns Rally causing substantial damage and destroying the prop, gearlever and slicing right through the tunnel

A quick list of what has been changed in the last year:

Engine - previous one had always overheated very badly, reaching 130c at Caerwent... took it apart and found it wrecked, unsurprisingly

Wiring loom - all sorts of issues, spent ages trying to fix, eventually bought a new loom and stripped out all unecessary wires

Prop and Gearbox

Tunnel repaired

Corsa steering column replaced with BMW E36 one

Mercedes A class power steering fitted

New suspension all round

Completely replaced entire fuel system including custom made ally tank, new fuel pumps, new lines etc...

Revised cooling system, including new electric fans

New carbon dashboard, with custom made carbon pod for digi dash

Front rose joints all replaced

New oil cooler

Carbon door cards

Gorgeous carbon HID lamp pod

Alloy clutch rest... I think you get the idea!

Basically a new car (again!) will post more later, hopefully including some piccies...

Still BMW at the moment but now very seriously considering sequential (and probably paddle shift) to go with the new engine which is being built The car will then be about as developed as it can be - I just hope I can drive it

I can't believe I am effectively swapping my original blue M3 Compact for a gearbox, but there you go... It does make an incredible difference from what I've seen, so driver skills apart, I should be a bit closer to the big boys. Regularly in the pots at SVs now, but keen to see if I can get an overall position one day without taking the easy option and buying a quick 4WD...

Been on the phone to MEF tonight so hoping to advance the sequential plans soon, funds permitting. Be good to meet up with all you guys somewhere. Hope your build is going well?

My oil temp has regually reached 130c on track and I have never had any problems....

I am however looking for ways to fix this!

we would have given up the sport after 4 on the run let alone 14!! i knew it was bad but bloody hell! still not convinced ( pound for pound)sequential is all good, i know plenty of people doing big events with h pattern boxes that we wouldn't get near even with a 10k gearbox!. handling, driving style/ corner speeds can outweight the need for a clicky. thats my take! blue touch paper lit!
