We did this event as a test for Wexford next month.... Didnt expect to come Second Overall, only loosing by 5 seconds!

Not wishing to play devils advocate but didn't Mef have problems with the BMW guibo on the rear, I sure he changed it for a more solid coupling

One other thing that Ive done was to turn up a solid alluminium copy of the Guibo joint in the propshaft for alignment purposes as I was given some advice about making sure that the propshaft centre joint was in the exact correct position, so no strain on Guibo. When I checked it using the solid joint I found that there was a considerable misalignment so had to cut and reweld the centre joint mountings and adjust the gearbox crossmember mounting holes to get it all in the best position. Its now perfect so hopefully less vibration and no more Guibo joint problems.

I did find a bit more info from his build thread

Weve checked these a few times since I used to have problems with these coming loose back in the Escort Cosworth days (1995) but they've never shown signs of coming loose at all. I found that the Guibo coupling is knackered (was brand new when I built the car and have only done half a dozen events).

It looks like the Guibo has bee winding up like Lotus Elan & Hillman Imp driveshafts, there are marks where the bolt heads have hit the propshaft flange on windup. The bolts have become severely damaged where they have been rattling about in the flanges.

Mine was off a 102k miler and done 24 events tho so far.... but only 1 with this box.

Apparently the metal ones dont have enough give and vibrate like mad, i have one in the shed, But never fitted it..

Well done Tom, excellent result, after a few issues we came 8th OA at the event last year. Had hoped to be there this year, but still sinking everything into the new car....
