Excellent progress as usual Mike.

Will you be using a seating arrangement like this Honda Civic's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phHZ2HOkn8s ?

i guess you are trying to keep the clutch pedal near the tunnel hence the crank in the pedal. The pedal lever arm lengths do look short.
saying that i'm sure you'll have it under control. 8)

Russ would that make me a backseat driver though?

[/quote]edit: if you want to keep standard gearbox mounts, theres loads to choose from, but i know 23 71 1 175 939 mounts used on 325's to old m5's are nice and solid compared to many.
Thanks is-si, I wanted to keep the standard mount but was quiet worried about the soft rubbers, you may have the answer!

The column is going to be extended by about six inches, I need a trip to bearing services to find a suitable bearing though, I'm hoping to extend the outer tubing with some spare rollcage material

The gearlever is a ford type 9 rose jointed affair, I cut the "saddle" off the bottom and welded the BMW bush assembly to the bottom, it's got the same lever ratio as the standard gearlever Russ supplied with the engine and gearbox. I've managed to find all gears without the rose joint necking out which was a concern

It's heater matrix next, anyone got any light ideas? The standard evo engine has what looks to be an external fan belt driven water pump, sitting above the aircon pump? Do I need to run this?

Great stuff Kitkat. :P Love the engine mounts. 8)

EGR/exhaust gas recirculating valve.......

It keeps the emissions lesbians happy when the engine's cold. (Mine has cats and passes the MOT emissions test ok without the EGR, but it needs warming up properly.)

Searching for my small alloy heater maitrix and camera atm. :)

I've bent the clutch pedal out the way so I could install the large brake pedal to aid left foot braking. Looking at the data from the touring car, it takes the driver 0.2 secounds to move his foot from full throttle to the start applying brake pressure, left foot braking should be much quickier. :P The pedal box has a lever ratio of 6:1, they look short in the photo because of the angle I took the picture from (I hope!). It might be a case of getting down the gym to develop those leg muscles!

I've been puzzling over that "water pump" for sometime, I've never seen a belt driven EGR before. We had a 528 in the workshop the other week and I noticed it had an external electric water pump in one of the heater pipes and hence I'd come to the wrong conclusion!

wiring I'm afraid....... Moving the fusebox inside the car so there'll be plenty of head scratching and cursing  I wonder how easy it'll be to convert the compact loom to run the M3 engine harness?

Straight forward plug n play to run the M3 engine on the factory ECU. 8) (With M3 donor car keys/barrel, ECU & EWS.)

If you're using the standard M3 dash cluster, all you need to do is to run a wire from the 'spare' (X69) engine loom connector (brown/red) to pin 26 on the white dash cluster connector, for the oil temp.

Forum member Ian332isport is a BMW wiring God. 8)

I needed to move the fuse box and decided to build a custom loom (based on/from 2 standard looms & factory colours, with a custom fuse box in the glove box), Ian guided me through it and it works nicely. 8)

Are they Escort mk 2 turrets you have used or did you make them your self?

Any further progress on yours Kit Kat :D

They're Mk2 round turrets, about £55 for the pair! Fairly easy to fit, had to cut a section out of the chassis rail to get them to fit nicely, used bits of string and a camber gauge to make sure both sides were about equal, 0.25 deg out, which I thought wasn't too bad!

Haven't had much progress over the last couple of months, car is stored at my Dad's workshop and he's retiring, so there's been a mad panick to get a double garage built at my place. Three more weeks should see the bulk of that done, then the car can come home and progress can start on that loom..... :(

My biggest set back has been my daughter being diagonsed with epilepsy, everything's been put on hold. She's had an MRI scan and we saw the consultant yesterday, thankfully they didn't find anything sinister. With that good news we're now looking to the future. I shall be up to collect some bits from Russ in the next couple of weeks and progress can start again!
