respect to the rwsc heard the dale story from the horses mouth, he got really p1ssed and chuck it off in a bog. it went something like that ?!!

He was up quite late - a shame really 'cos he might have done some more rounds and would've done well.

Yes indeed. 1996 iirc Motoring News round. Met Dale for the first time. He binned it early on and we got second in class first time on the ranges. (Where's the smiley for big head? )

It was snowing the night before but had all gone in the morning - thankfully.

Great place.

Similar story (minus Dale) on my first visit to Otterburn in 1989, had to stop mid stage and change a wheel, but still managed to get 3rd in class. Following years on the Cheviot Stages (Demon Tweeks/MN rounds) 3rd in class in 1990 and in 1991 2nd in class (John Price 6R4 won the event and his son won our class in a 1.6 Nova and Doug-Watson Clark was 3rd in class) with 120 starters

Did you build the RWD 205 rwsc? I started building one (with a NA Cosworth) after selling the 1600 essie in 1993, but progress was too slow for me and wanted to get out competing again, so I sold the completed/painted shell (shame as it would have been a great car I'm sure). With the proceeds I bought a 1.8 Nova instead and regretted it as I never got a (good) result in it, even after putting in a 2.0 motor and many other improvements

Did you build the RWD 205 rwsc?

I bought it ready converted and fresh. All based on the Escort (The Sunbeam based conversions didn't seem to be as successful - or the one at our club didn't. It came and went very quickly )

When I got it drove like a pig and the brakes were pi55 poor but I could see it had potential and was converted right. It had an Andersson race cam which was too wild - it flooded whenever the revs dropped it was undrivable. I put in a kent (244 I think ) and it transformed it.


Changed various things including the axle/diff the watts linkage was puny and was an English - in went an Atlas and panhard rod and tower. Gearbox mounts were re-engineered to stop the mounting lug from getting smashed, Other improvements were made and in the end it all worked well and remained simple and cheap.

Lost count of the number of rallies done in it.

I just need to confirm with the organisers re pulling the entry if i have a big problem on Rally Midlands, the cut off date for refumd is the saturday of RM.

if thats ok , and i am fit to run we wil be there.

can we all get to service close by ? we will be camping, any one else ?

You could send your entry forms in but don't send the cheque (oh I forgot!) until after the RM

looks good slippy a bit like an ironed out druidale!! very isle of man in places. still on the fence which diff to run, but opted for the 4.75 for a bit more top end. we might change depending on the pacenotes.
