What you dont see in the ground are the boulders, jonnies sump guard unearthed a boulder not much shorter than a rugby ball. the impact folded an 8mm sumpguard (with tigged 6mm deep sides upto the chassis) in half....tight too, like folding a piece of paper
as we dont like to say `motorsport is dangerous'

Gives me a little shiver looking at that corner again! Having had people contact me on BRF, we were not the first to go off there over the years - it is a terror ran both ways! Just a lack of knowledge before the event.

If the ditch wasn't there we would have got away with it, but the impact of hitting the bank of said ditch folded the sump guard and forced the wheels back into the arches - more so on JPS' side which caused the damage to himself.

Good News, I've spoke with jonny and he's sounding a lot better
Hes still got some pains which he's receiving medication for, but he is functioning well and keeping his dinners down now.
He is still in Newcastle but will be moved to Sheffield early this coming week. Sheffield have the facilities suited to his next phase of treatment and hopefully his stay there will be shorter than first anticipated.
He even talked about going rallying again !

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your get well messages

I've arrived home today after nearly 3 weeks in hospital and still rather sore from the accident and subsequent operation on my spine which now has a load of metalwork pinning it after a 6 hour operation. Still on a load of meds at the moment, but hopefully the pain should decrease and I'm walking around reasonably well again. Thankfully I didn't suffer any permanent spinal cord injury and now have to be ready to show my scar when I go through metal detectors in future, as I think the pins & rods will be staying in there! I hope to be able to rally again maybe next year, but the car is badly damaged and I'm in no fit state at the moment to drive safely (do an emergency stop). No heavy lifting until I've got some strength back in my back, but no real problems sitting at a computer again apart from having a painful backside still
