Took the compact over (thanks Norfolk Line) on Sunday for the all-dayer on Monday. Had my chum Andy as co-driver. Went in convoy with my brother Andy who was co-driving Simon's orange Porsche Cayman S Sport.
Expected bad weather and got it. The track was either wet or drying, though we did get an hour or so of dry line in the afternoon. Unfortunately it never really got so wet that my Dunlop full wets would have been the choice so we persevered on the Yokohama A048s all day. As you can imagine any wet lappery on those semi slicks was rather interesting.
Car came through unscathed. Worked like a dream in fact and mechanically ran like a swiss watch for the whole 1200 mile stint from Hampshire to the Eiffel and back.
Only blot on the copy book was the brakes. Monumental judder that came and went but never really cleared. Anyone else running EBC Redstuff pads? I'd be interested to hear others' experiences. My rear discs (Z3M vented) are black spotted - which I have read is a sign of overheating. Perhaps I need to shift the bias further forward?
Also will reckon on adding a bit more rear ride height seing as it felt like it was lifting it's inside front wheel in some turns.
Plenty of very expensive metal circulating including about a dozen Nissan GTRs, some Ferraris and even the Caparo T1. Can honestly say that it's the nut behind the wheel that makes the biggest difference though seeing as my 286bhp Compact was able to monster many more capable and expensive cars - e.g. overtaking a couple of Porsche GT3RSs at different points on the circuit on one lap!
Found out that my data recorder works better when the GPS aerial is on the roof and not magged to the roll cage.
