Has anybody got any info on fitting a s2000 to a e36?

just seen this, which got me thinking seeing as i think my m44 engine is gutless

My mate fitted one in to his compact. ....it wasn't the easiest installs. Dry sump kit required ...which means you've got to box in the dry sump tank in boot area . The steering column fouled the exhaust manifold. The 6 speed box really needs a mega low cwp to make it work properly . He had loads of issues along the way on rallys and eventually took it out after it ran the bottom end and fitted a 2.8 m52 engine - which he wishes he'd fitted from the start !.....He said it feels far faster and easier to drive .
He seen the s2000 engine/box option as cheap power - but he didn't appreciate that he was going to need standalone management and a dry sump system. ...which added over £2k to his £2250 engine and box costs . He then bought jenveys for it to give more grunt - another £1700 bringing his cheap power plant to over £6k by the time he had it mapped ...exh mods etc .

It seems not the easiest swap.

But a mate of mine have fitted the s2000 gearbox on a 325 E30 and i have the opportunity to try it, its simply lovely, far far better than the shitty bmw gearbox...

A M52B28 engine, M50 manifold, a decent exhaust system and a S2000 gearox i think is the best upgrade for the money that can be done before a S50/S52 engine....

Then is my next upgrade...

Seems that this conversion is to much hassle.

Its going in a road rally car. So 6cyl and throttle bodies are out the question. I had though of going down a s14 route but have to have a single throttle body.

Are there any other easy/decent conversions with easy power out there? Duratec/xe?

Im just doing some research now. See what msa decide at the end of the year. About different make engines

When we built our Compact we wasted loads of time considering and trying non BMW engine options (and fabricating to suit). Stick to a BMW engine and it's all much more straight forward.
