Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?
I enjoy SVs as a driver because I like a skid about. As previously (in a few of the 'Events' section threads that I've dragged off topic. MVs are proper rallying imo and they're more rewarding when you feel comfortable, but they're a team event and when you don't feel like part of a 'gelled' team they can be a disappointment ime. I view proper rallying as a genuine 50/50 team sport.
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?
I'd hoped to with Neil Mukerji. Chucking him on his head didn't help I don't want to involve the youngster too much. It's great to have a different type of weekend together. I've always had a 'regular' nav previously and I think that not having one atm is partly responsible for my lost mojo & lack of motivation.... SVs are a convenient bit of fun. But are they enough to keep a 'single' fire stoked up? You can't beat a bit of genuine team work to keep the enthusiasm boiling ime.
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?
i agree, i used to work at a place where the 2 guys would f-off and leave me to it - it was no fun at all ![]()
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?
Perhaps they were trying to tell you something Excuse me while I fcuk off also ![]()
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?Single Venues are part of the Rallying mix and attract a lot of fierce competition. There are some excellent venues and often they are cheaper to enter (requiring no tax & insurance and usually more local).
I'm certainly enjoying getting to the finish and am finding the mechanical issues less troublesome as the car isn't being stressed as much as on S/V's and tyre wear is very good Always look on the bright side of life

Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?Done both and have to admit we prefer MV's as they feel more like 'proper' rallying but when you consider the additional costs of entry fee's, Car Tax, additional petrol due to road sections, chase crews etc etc SV's have a place in rallying for those of us on a budget
I do concede they are just posh track days against the clock but becasue they are cheaper they therefore more for the Clubman i.e Moi'
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?As a co-driver I'm no great fan of SVs as my input is a lot less important re the result. But at least with most SVs you get the car moving about a bit more and to some THAT is rallying (ditto in the woods). To some neat lines on Manx, Otterburn etc is more a race car driver thing than a rally driver thing.
Re what rallying is to me, I think all rallying should take place after dark anyroad.
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?We recently competed on an SV where penalties for early arrival were ignored.
We parked at the end of a 'road section' because we were 2 minutes early, the car behind also did. The car behind him just passed us both and sailed in to the control 2 minutes early. This threw the start times at the next stage and car 2? was running about 8th on the road by the end of the day without any penalties being applied.<- That isn't rallying.
There should be more dark stages imo.
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?It's really bad that so many SVs just let co-drivers book in when they like, teaches them bad habits when they move up to bigger events.
Although I've always thought the thing that matters is the stages rather than road timing.
Re: Are SVs 'Rallying'?
Would love to see a race car 'attempting' most of the stages on Isle of Man, Otterburn etc
I know you love your Road Rallies, but can't agree that they are proper rallying if that's what you meant
Good stages are of course important, but if competitors don't follow the road timing and get a penalty, then your rally is ruined. Why take the risk? Always look on the bright side of life
