What to look for?

I'm looking to buy a 318ti compact as a base for a competition car, it's not a car I'm familiar with having rallied a Subaru for the last 5 years, would anyone advise me as to what to look for when buying, i.e. rust points and any other weakness? Thanks

Hi, I bought a 318Ti Compact 1998 to build into a Tarmac car and I found the following rust spots on mine
Rear nearside jacking point,
Rear nearside beam mounting
Inside front wing where it fits to inner sill.
Front ARB mounting brackets.
Other people might have more or less than myself, however all parts were available through BMW dealer.
