Does anyone have any suggestions of an easy way to remove the adhesive from the roof liner? I am referring to the thin clear plastic film that is left on the inside of the roof. It peels off in tiny bits and I havent found anything to dissolve it.

Have you tried brake cleaner?
It took me half a day to get rid of the glue residue after removing the tint film from my windows.

you could try heating it with a hot air gun, then scraping it off.

I tried the hot air gun and brake cleaner suggestions without great success. In the end I just used a wire wheel on the angle grinder and lightly buffed the plastic part of the adhesive off. I did it lightly to try and not remove the paint and e-coat completely but this was a bit inevitable. I am repainting anyway. There was still a layer of residue left. I used a pot scrubber and acetone to clean this off and the acetone did a good job of this. I had the shell side on, on the spit so it was a reasonably easy job and safe enough with the acetone.

I used a caramel wheel (decal remover) slow but does not damage paintwork
