Road Rally Tyres

so what's everyone's choice?

I know it seems that chunkies are used quite often but what is the 15" alternative to a 21r? got a few rallys coming up that don't have much whites on them so looking at getting some none chunkie type tyres.

what are the a048's like? are they even allowed on road rallys?

Hi,
Dont know if this helps but I did the Road Rally Class(7) on the Harry Flatters 2 weeks ago on 15" A048R's for JD tyres in South Wales in the ex Dave Davies(Diashag)318ti. I've used these tyres on all sorts of cars from a 1959 Aston Martin DB4 race car, Golf GTi, 1965 911 2.0S to the BMW and have always found them to be good wet or dry. The A021R is also worth considering depending on your size. To be honest I have never done a road rally so not sure what others are using but both of these have done well form me on Epynt.

been doing some research and find that alot say a048's arnt the best in the wet. have come across the dunlop dz03g not much talk about them but all ive read have been good and seem to be good in the wet. they are around £120 for 195/55r15 med compound but found them at £90 each in size 195/50 r15 which seems quite reosnable. anybody had any experiance with these?

I tried 16" Toyo 888 on the Mewla on the Compact and was very impressed, about £114 each from memory

15" Tarmac would have to be turbospeeds but not very good puncture resistance. I've gone from 15" down to 14" and changed the box to e36. I found the 4.45cwp, e30 box, 15" wheels and 65 profile tyres killed the gearing. Now on 14s I've got loads of choice. But the whole 'E' mark thing will kill 21s eventually.

For me its the Maxxis R19. Amazing on tyres and whites etc and Emarked.
