STRUT TOP MOUNTS

Can people give me some ideas of what is best out there for our Compact. We are not overly concerned about adjustable units. We are just interested in strength. We have run standard top mounts up until now without problem until Oulton Park but we are running coil over fronts now and my feelings are that the tops are more strained now than with platform struts.

If we go to the metal adjustable ones that litter Fleabay will this knock lumps out of the front turrets?

Or should I just go to BMW and get a new pair of standard units?

Your thoughts please.

Our Coupe has done three years with coilovers on standard 112,000 mile top mounts. No problems so far, done about 20 tarmac and two or three forest type events. I was going to change to ebay metal tops, in fact I bought some. When they arrived I decided that it would be kinder to the rest of the car to leave the original rubber top mounts in.

That's my feelings as I reckon you just transfer all the loads into the strut tops.

I have standard and done 20 events

Also got 3 sets of alloy ones made, never got around to fit them!

If I remember you haven't strengthened the front turrets on your car george, so I'd go for some e36 m3 frontstrut top mounts as the rubber might just save them from doming up, if your lucky!!

All the second hand M3 top mounts i have used on other cars have split appart on the rubber cup?

i got two m3 top mounts yaers ago from bruvs some 8-9 years ago, done maybe 20 road events or more and they are fine, just the bearings are a little tired.

they are about £40 a side new ebay.

Which Type did you get and did get M3 lower wishbone bushes to match? There are 3 variants you can get, the later E46 you swap sides to give the best results apparently. All very confusing once again.
