it's sitting on it's own wheels again :D
i've just been carrying on with putting it bak together today. put the new discs on it and roughly set the tracking. it has some more ground clearance at the fron thanks to the suspension but as a side effect it seems to have serious positive camber :? there's no money left in the fund for fancy top mounts so i may look at some quick and dirty methods of chopping the standard ones around if i get time.

the exhaust is, as the french would say, a fucking piece of s**t. it's been welded up more times than i care to remember but i'm not forking out for a nice system just to smash it off on a white; so this one is being pressed into service again.

Image

i've skidded the back box to give it's chances of survival a helping hand.

plan is to get the rear arms off tomorrow and get my mate to press the new bearing in before he goes away to the IOM on wednesday.

had a big battle getting the rear arms off today but got there in the end.
i had to drive the car out of the garage to turn it around, so in the process i found that the clutch works, i can select gears and the steering works. which is nice :D

well it should have been finished today but i went out last night and got absolutely obliterated, so today has been a write-off
rear arms have new bearings in and backplates on and are fitted to the car. just need to fit the shafts, brakes and wheels then it's on to the glory jobs. :D

Hi Alan, when fitting the prop did your drill out the 12mm holes required for the prop in the rubber damper Thingy successfully. Need to do mine tomorrow :)

Cheers for that. Got the box in my car now finally. Just drilled the three holes out to 11.5mm as biggest drill I had until the morning. Just made/modified my mount too.
Good luck with the rally

no pics i'm afraid as i've been to busy.
lights are now done, so i have dipped, high beam and spotties :D so i'll definately see what i crash into.
PAS system bled up, collant system bled, brakes bled (still need more though)
set a dry powder extinguisher off in the car when i was removing a seat, so that's made a nice mess
i tried some 15" wheels on it today which required 3mm spacers on the front, but look like they'll be the ones i'm gonna use. i'll be calling tweeks tomorrow to order a pair of A035's for the front, got some colways for the rear. sadly i'll have a spare which is a different size so if i get a puncture, that's game over.
the exhaust is fucked and will definately fall off.
tracking needs doing.
headlights need adjusting.
handbrake needs adjusting.
i need to get a spill kit.
mudflaps need doing.

looks like i'll be having a least a day off work this week.

well nearly ready for tomorrow.
i took it out for a little spin and to get it tracked (thanks Dai)
it goes and turns beautifully but, as always, the brakes feel s**t. going to bleed them up again tomorrow.
splashed out on a pair of a035s for the front and found some second hand colways for the rear but the colways are too narrow for the rims. they're on there with a bit of a stretch but if the scrut knocks them back i've got some yoko's in 14 inch to go on the rear.

i'm predicting i'll be out by petrol again but at least it looks like i'll get to the start which is an acheivement on it's own :D

well what a night that was!
:D
the car is an absolute weapon! i haven't enjoyed myself that much in a car EVER!
the brakes were shocking but with the yoko's on the front and colways on the rear we just drifted it round the lanes all night. it just wouldn't understeer and the front end saved me from a big off several times.
the billies were great and our ride height, which would put a unimog to shame, meant we flew down even the roughest whites :D

came away with 3rd in class and 9th o/a :D
oh, and i broke my thumb on friday when i caught it between the wheels and caliper

couple of decent photo's have finally come through from the rally :D

it turns out that as i predicted the exhaust did break on the rally and the skid that i made was the only thing left holding the back box to the pipe  there doesn't seem to be any availability of E30 318is exhaust systems from the usual motorfactors so i think i'm going to have to make my own. i'm certainly not paying out for a custom system as it'll just get battered.

i've entered the PK rally at the end of the month but i might be in only as a reserve. i'm going to lash the exhaust back together one last time, bleed the brakes up so i might have a chance of stopping it and then kick it's head in again :D

well i've lashed the exhaust up once again, a whole tub of gun gum is on it
doing the PK tonight which i'm thoroughly looking forward to.
i promise that if i finish i'll stop being such a pikey and geta new exhaust for it :D i'm gonna kick it's hoop in first though
