Started to strip the car today and it's worst than i first thought, the bottom of the engine has taken quite a big hit, it's cracked the timing wheel and smashed the front on the sump completly

Image

The hit snapped the prop centre bearing and kinked the prop into the drivers side of the tunnel, might be a bit of a god send as the diff seems to be ok.

Every crumple zone from the strut towers to just behind the drivers seat has done it's job well, creased in all the right places, the tunnel has gone over by 1 1/2 inches  , i've dropped the front subframe and rack which is scrap so i can get the engine out through the bottom.
The only bit of welding to let go was the harness bar, which has cracked the weld on both sides, but the cage is ok. Checked the seats and they seam to be ok so i'll stripp the cloth off them and check the welds on the bars, Also checked the harness's and they seem to be ok, no burns or tears in the stictching of fabric but i'll get the these sent away just to be on the safe side.

So front struts are ok, doors and tail gate ok, rear end ok, cage and seats ok, engine and box not ok

I would not like to have an accident in any other car, But lady luck was looking down on us, thank god.......
Hopefully i've found another TI in southampton for decent money so let the rebuild begin

If it's of any help I will soon have an S50B32 Evo sump pan available as I just bought a full kit to replace just my evo pump.

Good luck with the re-shell, i know what you mean when you say it's in the blood, the costs of this hobby are stupid but it's impossible to give it up!

How cheap is this compact Steve? surely once you have paid the boat, GST, VED and had it registered your going to have spent around £500 without the car. You can get compacts locally for around £1000-1200 if you keep your eye's peeled, benifit of being Jersey so less cancer too. Unless its just a shell your looking for

Ok lads the saga coninues, just bought this off fleabay,

1998 318ti the car comes in purple (techno violet) with original bmw alloy wheels. The car has full black leather interior and some M-Tech styling inside. The car comes with 6 months tax and is MOT'd until the start of Aug. The car has recently had two new back tyres fitted. This car has been well looked after and has only had one previous owner, it even comes with original BMW medical kit, never been used.
The exterior is in great condition for a car of its age, with only a couple of small marks.

Has only just done over 100,000 miles.
