mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Moderator: is-si Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Ill start off with one of the best upgrades I did!
4 pots all around, DS3000 pads front and Endless on the back. Transformed the car, I finally have a PROPER handbrake, 1 nip and it locks on dry tarmac no matter what speed. With the bias pedal box I can set it up perfect and it really has improved the car so much! Banana BMW
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Another good upgrade was going coilover on the front I had the Challenge spec bilstein with standard type springs on front, now have a coilover with 2 springs on. The small is much softer to take out the little bumps and the big spring do the rest! I left the back standard however the plan now is 2 way AVO coilover to try it. Mainly so I can play about with springs more! Banana BMW
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!One of the last things I did was go 3.0 M3. The engine was out of a Kumho Cup car track car, had lots of work done to it before. Evo sump, head, Custom pistons and Rods etc The weight I have gained and the power, I really am not sure I have done the right thing!! Original plan was 3.0 stroker M52 2.8! With schrick cams, throttle bodies etc etc etc was hoping for 270-280bhp But the M3 engine came along and I thought I would give it a go! Might look at building a 3.0 M52 next to try again though! Some custom made engine mounts As the standard ones break with the weight of this "BOAT ANCHOR!" Banana BMW
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!That's nice mounts !....might need to get my self a set just to be safe . What's the front spring ratings then ?
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Them engine mounts are £80 each or £100 powdercoated
Or just make them yourself. I just couldnt be arsed with all the hastle! Banana BMW
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Certainly looks strong enough! Lucky for us our m54 chassis mounts work with the new lump, probably going to miss the light noseweight of the m54 , but haven't fully ruled out going back down that route, due tothe amount of work already been done.

Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Have you got everything solid mounted at the back now?
Any problems with bolts working their way loose? Mine seems to come loose all the time, the two at the rear cover where it bolts to the cross member on the shell are the worst culprits. One snapped the welds on the bracket so had to be reinforced last year. Thinking of putting some rubber in there but not sure how
Re: mrfuzzyfelts BMW Compact Rally Car - mk2!Ye its solid mounted, and stuff comes loose, but we spanner check before ever event and between most stages so no issues
