Pikey laptop monitor going on here. Let's be having a proper look at the steering wheel position. In all seriousness - I know I bitch like a bald old has never been about my compact. But they still make more sense to me as a 'base project', than any other 'modern' RWD car that I can think of. Looking forward to the progress reports. I'll lose interest if you cheapskate a lardy 6-pot bully in, tho.

Bro' collected an S14 block yesterday, dropped at Wayne the brains so we could mock up the exhaust and sump. . . . . . . by coincidence . . . . Wayne was tuning an Ali block 2.5 M52 (built by Russ) on ITB's in a compact - it was making more power than a standard S50 - the owner raved about it and how little it weighed . . . . . . . i'll let bro report more Thought process so far: S50 > S14 > M54 > S14 > M52 > S14 > I'm no fan of 6 pots, but an alloy one fed properly looks promising ...i think

Still not quite proper 'rightness' imo, but I'd fancy finding out. Lots of revs?
Re: bruvsmotorworks compact buildThe car at waynes was on solid lifters with race cams, they are limited to 2.5 litres.
Our base unit will be a 3.0 M54 (deposit paid)...at the moment (and i mean at the moment ) we are thinking about adding cams, aftermarket brain and itb's, +sump work. Wayne said a standard engine fuelled properly would deliver 250hp, we've spoke to Catcams and may try their rally cams that retain hydraulic lifters, we'd be happy with 275 hp and 5hit loads of torque An M54 block with pistons are lighter than an S14, the head is a more compact design too so i'm hoping and praying the nose weight will be sensible, helped by the engine being further back in the E36 Still 5hitting myself as its hard to step away from a proven design, but Bro aka `bruvs1' is sold on the scheme....but he's always liked 6pots

joe(majorspaniel) and i often talk of building a stage prep'd compact and we always comclude that 6-pot wrongness is the way to go. it'll be interesting to see how it goes with a lighter engine

I had an M54 3.0L road car and the engine was very good, but very lazy. Lightened crank & flywheel? Ditching the Vanos?
Re: bruvsmotorworks compact buildthe 2.5- 6 banger( which is built to fit in a class in the kumho championship) at waynes, sold the job, it even looks light!! they reckon it will rev to 8.5k with race cams and some work its sniffing at 300 gg's. so with some mods and the extra c.c's momentary confidence is high We like to be different and a move back to rhd will be sad but with the rack in with the deal it was a no brainer.

Re: bruvsmotorworks compact buildAbout time too. Me 'n Dave (son no. 2 ) had already discussed the way to go for the Bruvs. And taking into account the events you do (proper ones) had concluded that an alloy 6 banger was the way.
We had considered, on your behalf,after much research by Dave , that even an M52b28 with M54b30 crank rods and piss-stones, USA M3 Cams, M50 inlet and M3 ex fannymold would give you 250 - 260 horses for little money. Suspension wise we think you should speak to the man at AVO about bespoke units. (We'll have a set too ) I wonder if yours will get finished before mine? Oh I nearly forgot...................only tarts prefer LHD
