Targa Rally Compact Novice

Postby McSwerve » Fri Nov 14, 2014 2:18 pm

Afternoon

We've done a couple of Targa Rally's with Chelmsford Motor Club and after looking at the photos from M&H I desperately need to do something with the suspension.

I’ve currently got M Tec Sport suspension on it, but it’s extremely soft, to the point where, in hard corners, the sills look like they’re only a couple of inches off the deck.

For phase 1 of developing the car, would it be worth just putting some stiffer springs on the existing shocks? If so any thought’s on ratings and lengths?

Or should I keep looking for some billies on ebay? If I went for that, would the spring recommendations be the same?

Peter Lloyd sell a very cheap coilover kit, but at £200 surely that wouldn’t be up to it?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I have a full Spax platform suspension kit from our rally car. Good stuff to kick off with. fitted to a Compact E36.

E36 316i, although another job for the winter is adding a 318i engine in.
And a quick rack.

I also have an M42 1796cc engine if you are interested. This has a remapped ECU which was done on a rolling road with the motor. Really reliable motor which we used for 3 years.
