e30/ compact rear shock lower bolts.

Postby Adam Gardner » Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:45 pm

I have experienced a couple of rear shocker lower bolts disappearing out of the rear arms on rougher rallys, twice on a mates e36 compact and once on my own e30. All 3 failures on the n/s.
I wondered if anyone else has had such issues? I don't usually locktite the threads but always check tightness of them prior to an event,
I spoke to another guy competing on this years preston rally who was running a compact and reckons he run titanium bolts and this has cured the same issue on his car.
I was thinking of having some studs made up so I could insert them into the rear arms then use a nut on the stud.
I wondered what others have come across plus what did works cars run? Surely cars with rear coilovers make this issue worse?

We lost one on our compact when I was skimping and run Sunbeam rear shocks on the car which were a bit too short. Since fitting spax shocks correct for the car we have had no problems. Its a fitted bolt so any type of standard bolt will probably work loose.

I drilled a hole and used tie wire after I lost one of mine
